Formed in 1990 near Washington DC, Trans Am’s multiinstrumental and varied approach to song-writing over the years have confounded many of their critics. Rising to attention on the back of the post-rock/math-rock movement through their association with bands such as Tortoise, they demonstrated an eagerness to depart from the classic rock script, incorporating electronic influences that saw them garner releases in unlikely places, such as the experimental German label Mille Plateaux. Further deviations have been exhibited: their play on Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies (replacing it with their own humorous Obscene Strategies), their flirtations with metrosexual marketing imagery, and the bleak, politically charged album Liberation, released in the U.S. election year of 2004. www.transband.com/

PROSTITUTE
