KAN SHINOMURA

A native of Japan, Kan Shinomura trail-blazed the sounds of House and Techno across Japan and then to New Zealand in the mid 90s, before he returned to Tokyo to begin a whirlwind tour of Asian clubs that took him to Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Taiwan.

Now based in Canada, Kan’s partnership with legendary local DJ Rennie Foster has led to the establishment of Futago Technologies: a collective effort to bridge the pair’s inspiration in soulful Detroit Techno with the emergent Tokyo sound.

Citing everything from Chicago House to traditional Japanese and African music as influences, Kan’s brand of futurism is mindful of the past, as both his DJ sets and productions attest to.
