CHRIS DOYLE

"What I do When I'm Where I am" Chris Doyle / Du Ke Feng

October 27th, Dublin Electronic Arts Festival.

Spend the night with cinematographer and artist Chris Doyle / Du Ke Feng. Chris Doyle is renowned for his unique straddling of Eastern and Western Cultures. His Australian (and Irish roots) are often eclipsed by his Asian sensibility and love of the cultural dynamic found in his long time home and work places of Hong Kong, China, Tawain and Korea.

This bespoken event for DEAF looks at social and cultural connectivity through his work for screen. It explores how he finds his place in each space, both physcially when shooting in small spaces and metaphysically, always arriving from somewhere else.

Fittingly, in Dublin's best loved international den of fun The Hop House, Parnell Street, Doyle's enigmatic and high octane platform speaks beyond the convention of film making to energise and inspire a social and cultural engagement.

Biog:

Renowned Australian-born cinematographer Chris Doyle has spent most of his professional career working at the heart of the Hong Kong film scene. Although he has worked with Barry Levinson, Gus Van Sant and M. Night Shyamalan amongst others, he is best known in the West for his collaborations with Wong Kar-Wai on Chungking Express, Happy Together, In the Mood For Love and 2046.

Better known by Chinese-speaking audiences as Du Ke Fung (`like the wind'), Doyle is a passionate advocate of Asian cinema and attributes to it a vibrancy and energy that long ago left Hollywood in its wake. Citing music and dance as hugely influential on his unique visual style, his approach to his own craft is famously irreverent.

What I do When I'm Where I am offers Irish audiences the opportunity to experience one of Doyle's enigmatic and high-octane performances in the intimate setting of Dublin's Hop House Korean Restaurant on Parnell Street. Addressing his own unique straddling of East and West, Doyle will explore how he finds his place in each space. As ever, his trademark style is guaranteed to travel beyond the
convention of film-making rhetoric to energise and inspire a genuine social and cultural engagement.
