The Joinery is an experimental space consisting of a lens-based gallery, artists’ workspaces and photo studio on Arbour Hill in Stoneybatter. The Joinery opened on July 17 2008, with Sit Still, a show of new work by Feargal Ward and Miranda Driscoll.

Dr. Esperanza Collado

Dr. Esperanza Collado (Valencia, Spain), is an artist, curator and writer currently living in Dublin. She is the director and chief curator of Márgenes: Experimento y Praxis – the Dublin-based Spanish avant-garde art & film festival. Collado is also the editor of Spectrum – an independent publication exploring different aspects of cinema. Collado has previously curated exhibitions for the Darklight Film Festival and for the thisisnotashop gallery, and is a programming committee member of the Experimental Film Club. She lectures in the Creative Arts & Media Department of DBS College.

Ears have no eyelids of bonds between sound and the night a pierced eye as a journey to the worlds of the night, of apparitions in dreams of painted images in caverns and of the reemerging dead Profanations is a work consisting of appropriation and reconstruction of images and sequences of films by Jules Marey, Pudovkin, Kirsanoff, Eisenstein, Romero, Halpern and Klechov, from which a series of micro-stories have been created and organised according to Campas de Luz (Light Bells), a music composition by Joan Riera Robuste. Profanations plays with the articulation and disarticulation found in film to create a rupture with traditional cinematic narrative and representation. Images are not employed as symbolic signs or forms by which to illustrate or explain sounds. Rather, they function as sound signs in a complex of rhythms, curves and asymmetries.
