In 2009 Nice & Nasty celebrated 15 years since it was founded in Belfast by Desy Balmer. Since then, Rob Glennon, thatboytim, The Parallel, T.Polar, Chymera, Orlando Voorn, Marco Bernardi, Terrence Dixon, Mick Chillage and Vakama have all recorded for the label. Now based in Dublin, 2009 has proven to be a productive year for Nice & Nasty, alongside its sister label, Dublin Xpress. A special edition download of 4 remixes of Orlando Voorn’s ‘Angles’ by Jamie Behan, Vakama, Rob Glennon and Fran Hartnett will be released for DEAF on 22nd October. www.niceandnasty.net
Set up nine years ago in Belfast by thatboytim and friends (therarelowry and agent foot), Takeover Recordings has gone on to feature debut vinyl releases for the likes of Ed Devane and T.Polar; label releases have also featured in the playlists of Laurent Garnier and Andrew Weatherall, along with an appearance on Fabric 9, by Radioactiveman. After a flurry of solo activity (including remixes for Cap Pas Cap , Ignition Technician and TR-One, plus a track on !Kaboogie Records’ debut 12″), Tim is now re-launching the label. www.takeoverrecordings.com
Defekt - Irish Electro dj/producer influenced by future technologies and the idea of a controlled society. Found his love in Electro and synthetic music from the influence of Kraftwerk, analog Synthesizers and science fiction writer Philip K Dick. Look out for a forthcoming remix of Rogue Frequency on Takeover.

Jay Riordan has been listening to electronic/dance music since he was 12 years old, and starting djing at 15. His journey has seen him play rave, trance, and currently a more tech house/ minimal style. He had radio shows on NRG 88 and Kiss105.8 but was still too young to gig. 2007 saw Jay starting to produce his own tracks, and in 2009 he has released on Dublin Xpress (which he helps A&R for), and remixed Stefano Vozza, thatboytim, Corrugated Tunnel, and Diarmuid O’Meara. He will feature on Takeover’s debut release, Response Unit 1.

The Parallel - Described as one of the finest techno producers to emerge from Ireland in the past years, The Parallel (aka Colin Mc Keown) is a man whose musical talents are constantly growing, evolving and catching the attention of more and more people. A creator of deep, ambient, slickly produced techno that gives an individual twist to a much loved Detroit sound, his talents are not limited to the confines of the studio. Successful live shows in Dublin and Galway have recently impressed, and releases on Static, Nice & Nasty and Takeover have featured in the charts and playlists of Dave Clarke, Orlando Voorn, Chymera and many more.

Rogue Frequency is Dave Hayden, purveyor of rocking machine funk. Having produced for many years in obscurity, 2009 sees Dave unleash his electro stylings via Takeover. Look out for future live and dj sets, he takes no prisoners!

Rob Glennon
The man behind Static records, Rob’s productions and live sets consist of his own unique blend of tech-funk. Recent releases on Bastardo Electrico and Nice & Nasty have been receiving ongoing regular plays from Dave Clarke and Ben Sims amongst others. Always on the money.

T.Polar has had a long journey through electronica of many shades, from the microhouse stylings of early releases on takeover, Morris Audio and Karloff, to more ambient fare as Sitizen on Acroplane, to his gnarly, and at times woozy, post rave music on Nice & Nasty, Digital Distortions, and now Takeover.

Desy Balmer – Nice&nasty head honcho. See above. www.myspace.com/desybalmer
Toirse – D1 and Frontend Synthetics’ mutant funkster aka Educution, in DJ mode. Takes Chicago house and Detroit techno into the 21st century with his infectious, bumping sound. His tracks have been played by a host of big name DJs and featured on Ben Sim’s ‘Escapism Part 2’ mix CD. A remix of thatboytim features on Takeover’s forthcoming releases.

Smac and Daire Delmar have been djing and promoting electro, techno and general alternative music in many venues around Dublin over the years. We thought we’d get them down to go back to back and do what they do best…
